SUMMARY:🧤 Volunteer: TNC Elementary School Field Trips
DESCRIPTION:Also November 13\, and maybe 14.  \n\n\n\nVolunteers will guide 5th grade students through forest\, high marsh\, or low marsh habitats looking for examples of food\, shelter\, and water through the eyes of different animals and plants that are found living there.  \n\n\n\nGroups of students will number around 25 each. No volunteer would lead a group by themselves but will help TNC staff or lead with another volunteer. Parent chaperones and teachers will also be with each group to help. Most groups arrive at Brownsville Preserve around 9:15 or so and leave by 1:15.  \n\n\n\nAnyone volunteering who isn’t already youth safety certified through TNC will need to sign a two-time exception waiver where they can volunteer twice with TNC where youth are present before needing to go through a background check and short online training.  \n\n\n\nAnyone can be helpful if they like to be around kids and nature. We have lesson plan documents that we can share with anyone who is interested so that they get some details on what the field trip is like. \n\n\n\nContact jennifer.miller@tnc.org to sign up. DESCRIPTION:Description: Do you do tabling at events?  Or take programs out to different facilities\, organizations\, or sites?  Then you are involved in what we know as outreach\, which can range from informational to interpretive. Learn how to create opportunities for informal or spontaneous interpretation.  We’ll also discuss design for signage\, pop-up exhibits\, and tables as well as incorporating hands-on and minds-on activities to captivate your audience and inspire them to seek more from your organization. \n\n\n\nPresenter: Angela Yau is the Nature Program Facility Manager at Locust Grove Nature Center with Montgomery Parks\, a Certified Interpretive Trainer with the National Association for Interpretation\, a Registered Coach with the National Park Service\, a yoga teacher\, and a historical clothier.  She started with a Masters in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida\, specializing in human dimensions and interpretive and ecotourism planning.  She has worked in interpretation of cultural and natural resources and training staff and volunteers for over 30 years and loves helping people be the voice of the resource.  Angela has a passion for sharing the stories that help people to connect\, care for\, and conserve these precious resources. \n\n\n\nLink: https://virginiatech.zoom.us/j/81632845260

SUMMARY:Member🧤Volunteer Opportunity: VESLT 2nd Grade Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers assist with co-leading a 2nd grade class along the nature trail pointing out habitat\, living things and their life cycles\, how plants/animals are interdependent with their living and non-living surroundings\, and natural resources along the way. Essentially\, covering 2nd grade SOLS 2.4\, 2.5\, and 2.8. There will be a few stations as well throughout and after the nature walk. Volunteers assist with co-leading stations (Eastern Shore specimen box\, nature walk art reflection\, marsh viewing\, and nature scavenger hunt). DESCRIPTION:The Eastern Shore Land Trust is seeking volunteers to assist with the following student field trips (Category 15: Eastern Shore Land Trust Children’s Field Trips): \n\nMay 7th – Metompkin Elementary 2nd grade (3 classes/6 volunteers)\nMay 9th – Metompkin Elementary 2nd grade (2 classes/4 volunteers)\nMay 20th – Kegotank Elementary 1st grade ESL (11 students/1-2 volunteers)\nMay 24th Kegotank Elementary 2nd grade ESL (17 students/2 volunteers)\n\nThe May 7th and May 9th field trips will be held at Grayson Chesser’s farm on the way to Saxis. The May 20th and 24th field trips will be held at Brownsville Preserve.\nThe day will look something like this: \n9:00/9:30 a.m. Students arrive \n9:30 a.m. Welcome and introduction by VESLT \n10 a.m. 1-2 mile nature walk with scavenger hunt \n11:15 a.m. Activities – identifying bones and shells\, art reflection/journaling based on the scavenger hunt \n12 p.m. Lunch (please bring your lunch\, we will have some snacks available for volunteers) \n1 p.m. Departure \nIdeally\, we will have enough volunteers to co-lead a class of students or to break the classes into smaller groups. I will also be looking for help leading the activities. \nSecond grade is learning about habitat and life cycle.
