ESMNs and DCR Host A.L.L. Trips

For the third consecutive spring, as part of a course organized by the Academy for Lifetime Learning (A.LL.), interpretive walks were held at preserves in the DCR Coastal Region during the month of May.

This year we collaborated on five interpretive walks. With the addition of Cape Charles Natural Area Preserve, all four of the public access facility preserves on the Eastern Shore and Northampton County’s Edward Brinkley Preserve were covered.

Eastern Shore Master Naturalist experts and DCR Natural Heritage Stewardship staff lead about 10 guests each on the mornings of April 29th, May 5th, May 7th, 12th, and May 14th. Participants learned about native and invasive plant species, restoration techniques, shoreline management complications, unique bird and invertebrate species, and more.

These events increase awareness of the ESMN chapter; educate the public; and inspire support of the DCR mission, conservation actions on private properties, and participation in future volunteer activities at state preserves.
